I HAVE just returned from the Wyre Forest in a deeply saddened state after witnessing the appalling damage done to this area in the name of conservation.

I can only say that English Nature should be thoroughly ashamed of the devastation they have caused.

What was once a beautiful area, particularly at this time of year, with the breathtaking colours of autumn, is now a sea of mud with felled trees, all numbered, presumably to be sold for profit, and vast open spaces which have totally changed the serenity and atmosphere of this once truly beautiful area.

I just cannot believe what I saw. It is heartbreaking.

Parts of Wyre Forest have been completely destroyed.

If they wanted to provide a habitat for rare butterflies why on earth did they not thin out some of the trees?

Many of these great oaks have taken hundreds of years to reach maturity. No, English Nature, you have no soul, you really should know better.

On a final note, if anyone is thinking of taking a winter stroll around Lodge Coppice - think again. You will need fishermen's waders to get through the mud but what is worse, it will honestly break your heart. Don't go.
