A DECISION on whether a former Worcester man and his 11 British colleagues being held in Greek custody will be charged with espionage is not expected until next week.

Former Nunnery Wood High School pupil Wayne Groves, aged 38, was part of a 14-strong group arrested on Thursday, November 8, after allegedly taking photographs of military aircraft.

They were detained after attending a display at Kalamata airbase and if found guilty of espionage face a 20-year prison sentence.

Magistrates referred their case to a judicial counsel, which, relatives initially believed, was due to meet last week.

But it has now emerged the prosecutor's file has not yet been handed to the three judges who make up the counsel.

It is expected that they will meet to begin reading the case early next week.

Meanwhile Mr Groves' father, Don, arrived back yesterday at his Kilbury Drive home, in Worcester, after a second visit to Greece.

He confirmed the group's case review has not taken place because evidence has not yet been submitted by the prosecution.

"From what I've seen, and heard I believe the Greek government want to have this case done and dusted but the military are digging their heels in," the 64-year-old said.
