DIVISION One leaders Newton Works A beat newcomers West Midland Phones A 10-0 in the Bromsgrove, Redditch and District Table Tennis League this week.

Several games went to the best of three but the Newton team - Geoff Cooper, Mark Fiddian and Michael Kendall - were much too strong.

Newton Works B also had a good 8-2 win away at Astwood Bank.

Visiting captain Gary Jackson had a great night winning his three games.

John Hunt and Alan Hall backed him up by winning two games each. David Wood won twice for the Bank.

Closest match of the week in Division One was between Barnt Green A and Droitwich A with the Green winning 6-4.

Mark Cornish was in great form for the victors with three wins. Steve Hore won two and Jason McFaul one. For Droitwich, Tony Birch won two and captain Don Evans one, they then teamed up to win the doubles.

In Division Two, Studley Road Nomads had a comfortable 8-2 win at home to Droitwich C.

Nomads captain Bernie Leech triumphed in his three games, with team-mates Jeff Lines and Gary Steele winning two each.

Bernie and Jeff also won the doubles. Peter Wozniak won Droitwich's two games.

West Midland Phones B had an 8-2 victory over Newton Works C. Phones' number one, Ian Maybury, was man of the match with three wins. Dot Sheward and Clive Hall won two each. Steve Dimbylow was Newton's top player with two victories.

Barnt Green Hornets had a hard game against Barnt Green B and narrowly squeezed home 6-4. For the Hornets, Ivor Anderson and Chris Garner both won two games with Neil Anderson winning one.

Barnt Green B's star player was Ian Scott with two wins. His team-mates, John Davies and Jim Maguire, won one each.

The score stood at 5-4 to the Hornets with the doubles to play and they won it 21-19, 21-13.
