BIRMINGHAM'S premier comedy club is to undergo a £1 million expansion and refurbishment.

The glee club, which has become one of the most popular night-spots in the West Midlands since it opened seven years ago, is set to benefit further from a new late-night studio theatre and enlarged main auditorium.

The transformation will also include new bars, a downstairs lounge and air conditioning.

Owner Mark Tughan said: "The investment shows how seriously we believe in the future of the Glee and just how great the demand is.

"When people like Jack Dee, Lee Evans and Jasper Carrot choose the Glee as the place to try out new material, you know you've arrived.

"Our crowd certainly knows how to have a great time and enjoy a good laugh and will soon be able to take advantage of a superb venue that will make them even more at home than the current one."

Doors open at 8pm Thursdays and Fridays and 7.45pm Saturdays and advance booking is advised.

Wednesday student nights operate from October to March.
