MALVERN Ladies hockey team took on Badsey at Malvern Girls' College in only their second league game of the season due to cancellations.

MALVERN LADIES 3, BADSEY 1

Having lost 2-3 to Bromsgrove in the earlier game it was not going to be easy against a strong Badsey side.

Newly elected captain and vice captain Emily Swinswood and Sarah Hopkins both started the game well in midfield and passed the ball out to both wings giving Malvern the confidence to push forward. This resulted in Kerry Broadhead-Evans striking the first goal following a penalty corner.

The match then deteriorated due to over aggressive play from both sides and Badsey equalised right on half time following a free hit.

The Malvern team talk was heeded and they were quickly back in control with Nettie Young going close several times. The second goal was inevitable and an unmarked Broadhead-Evans made no mistake.

The Malvern defence was now put under pressure but Katie Martin held firm at sweeper with the Malvern keeper able to cope with any shot. A third goal for Malvern scored by Jo Hall saw the Badsey team accept defeat.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern travel to Tenbury and players are asked to check meeting time with Emily.

New players are always welcome and Emily can be contacted on 01684 569532.
