WORCESTER Athletic Club's youngsters were in fine form in the National Road Relay's held at Sutton Park.

Following their excellent performances in the Midland Relays the teams were in confident mood.

The teams, which consisted of three runners, completed a tough road course of 2.3km against some of the best teams in the country.

The first team to tackle the course were the under 13 girls, where Worcester fielded two teams. The 'A' team finished 35th closely followed by the 'B' team in 51st.

The best run came from Sophie Hayden in a time of nine minutes, 49 seconds who was backed up with excellent performances from K Ledger 10-01, E Hayden 10-10, F Pickering 10-25, H Turner 10-26 and L Manganiello 11-14.

The under 13 boys were next to go and they got of to a flying start with Daniel Keen taking 10th place on the first leg only 30 seconds behind the leader, he was supported by M Summers and S Plant who ran 9-27 and 9-23 respectively to take a well deserved 18th position.

The 'B' team took 36th position with excellent performances from E Elmhirst 9-21, D Taylow 10-13 and S Rushall 10-26.

The best performance of the day came from the under 15 girls. Charlotte Turner took the first leg giving the girl's an excellent start with a great time of 9-13 and taking 28th position.

A storming run from Anna Simmonds then took the team to 14th position and recorded the 16th fastest time of the day with 8-32.

Kirsty Law took over for the last leg and once again produced a gutsy run to take eighth position in a time of 8-19, which also placed her 7th fastest. Jodie Ledger ran a fine leg in the B team event finishing in 9-24.
