INTERGALACTIC artwork has gone on display at a Bewdley gallery blighted by work to install foundations for removable flood barriers. Mark Leadbetter with one of Betsy Smith's paintings outside his Bewdley gallery.

Mark Leadbetter, owner of The Quay gallery, said the exhibition, on until November 3, was the first of many planned to attract visitors to the Severnside North venue that many believe is closed due to the work being done outside.

Twenty-three paintings by Betsy Smith "exploring images from deep space capturing the full spectrum of rich and vibrant colours the universe holds" are on display along with about 100 pieces of Amanda Hazelwood's free-blown glassware that uses "traditional techniques to produce individual pieces of stunning glass".

Ceramics, 3D art and metalwork - which is mostly original and "90 per cent by local artists" - are among the other media on display at the gallery.
