THE RSPCA has condemned a vicious act by 'barbaric' thugs after the body of a young dog was found drowned at Broom Bridge.

A tan-coloured male dog was discovered by a member of the public and was fished out of the river on Saturday.

The animal had blue nylon rope tied tightly around his neck, which had been used to attach a car wheel.

Although it has not been confirmed, the RSPCA believes those responsible dumped it at night and could have thrown it from a car off the bridge.

The mongrel, believed to be an English bull terrier cross, was wearing a blue puppy collar and was thought to have been between one and four.

It could have been in the water several days.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "If anybody saw anything or have noticed a neighbour's dog matching this description has disappeared, we urge them to contact us on 08705 555999."
