HOORAY for Pat Jones of Bewdley.

After reading her criticisms of the superloo (Letters, October 11), the old adage "an ounce of experience is worth a ton of theory" immediately springs to mind.

When I wrote to all the councillors, I made almost identical comments, but only two had the interest or manners to comment.

Now the Stourport toilets, and gun turret, are no more, so no doubt councillors and/or officials feel they have won the day and the matter will die a natural death. Somehow I don't think so.

I have received a written promise that if my forebodings regarding the superloo proved correct (and Pat Jones's letter certainly points that way) then further consideration can be given to providing the right kind of toilets in the right place.

What a farce - they have spent our money destroying existing facilities, more money on a superloo, and almost certainly more money to replace the toilets we had in the first place.

On top of this, the site has been barricaded off, the access to the riverside (which has been in use since 1947) is no longer available and, I am told, will not be reinstated.

Another contentious issue looming is the possibility of the funfair from Kidderminster, having lost its site on the Worcester Road island, being located on the riverside at Stourport.

Most of the older residents know it was decided years ago to discontinue this practice.

Not only was there the expense of making good the damage but, on occasions, the river quite often flooded the field, causing mayhem for the fairground operators and for the people who had to rescue them.

Can we hope this time commonsense will prevail?
