WITH regard to George Cowley's reply earlier this month to my letter of September 27.

In days past when one rang the bells to raise the alarm it was traditional to strike hard.

When using the pen to raise the alarm it is necessary to grab the reader's attention - obviously this worked!

A pity he did not seem to read the rest of the letter.
