MOTOR SPORT: Two quad bikers want to 'sand' a message out to rival riders in the Weston-super-Mare Beach Race.

Simon Davies and Geoff Hand are vying for first and second position at the popular event on Saturday.

They need a good result to help them on their way in the British Quad Biking Endurance Championships.

Davies is currently third in the competition with Kidderminster-based Hand fourth but there are only 10 points separating the top five.

The pair, along with motocross racer Mike Haywood, recently finished a creditable 11th in a 12-hour race in the French Alps.

Davies, of Stourport, admitted that Hand was the favourite to take the points at the seaside after an impressive display last year.

He explained: "Geoff likes racing on sand and he led for the first three laps last year but had a gearbox problem and eventually stopped.

"He has done a lot more of this kind of racing than me but I will drag along and hopefully we'll get first and second.

"The race is over a mile straight up the beach and then two miles back across the dunes. It's excellent for spectators."
