DEAR EDITOR - I have resisted the temptation to respond to a range of negative letters over the past weeks, but I do feel that the people of Droitwich deserve to know the facts and not the fantasy put forward by Mark Heal (Letters/October 10).

The proposals Wychavon District Council agreed on October 9, to be put forward to the Boundary Commission, included a decrease in the number of councillors from 49 to 45.

The Government has decreed that all councillors should represent an equal number of the electorate.

Evesham will increase its number from eight to nine and Pershore will decrease its number from four to three. Droitwich will continue to have nine district councillors.

The mental health project was county council. Only Labour members have questioned our defence of the green belt. One of the first acts of the current administration was to set aside £1m. for the Droitwich Canals. It has invested about £300,000 to refurbish Salwarpe Valley Sport facilities. It has provided substantial investment in the Droitwich Sports Centre fitness unit, and made considerable investment in 'town enhancements' etc.

Now they are prepared to set aside £550,000 to provide Droitwich with a 'state of the art' Spa leisure complex.

There is much more in the pipeline and all this gets 100 per cent support from the Conservative majority on Wychavon.

It's time to recognise that Droitwich is an equal partner within the district council.

I can assure the people of the town that Droitwich councillors are at the heart of the decision making and we get every co-operation from our colleagues.

Pam Davey,

District Councillor, Droitwich Central
