DEAR EDITOR - In response to Mrs S A Walters' letter regarding Bank Holiday refuse collection in Bromsgrove.

At the end of the day the council will have their way eventually, either by blackmail tactics or just sacking the men against the new system of working Bank holidays.

In Birmingham the refuse collectors were forced to work Bank Holidays about 12 years ago. They were blackmailed into submission. They have Christmas Day and Boxing Day off and all the Christmas refuse is collected the following week - including working New Year's Day, and people still moan.

Bromsgrove's 'bin-men' will have a hard time keeping their Bank Holidays free but, with Bromsgrove District Council's track record, if they don't conform they might be looking at the Job Centre.

Years ago Bank Holidays meant something and Christmas too. New ideas and trends are not always perfect as some employers try to tell us.

Good luck to the Bromsgrove 'bin-men.' I hope the rate-payers will support them, they will need it.
