BROMSGROVE mixed their second and third teams for their friendly against Droitwich.

Droitwich had push back and made a positive start with a goal from the first short corner by June Green after five minutes.

With an early lead Droitwich commanded most of the play with shots from Gemma Richards hitting the post and several saves from the Bromsgrove keeper keeping the score at 1-0. This rallied Bromsgrove into action and it was end to end play for much of the half.

Bromsgrove's defence worked hard and kept it tight at the back whenever Droitwich pushed forward.

Towards the end of the first half Bromsgrove's determination was rewarded with their equaliser. A well-worked move between Libby Jass and Helen Harkiss allowed Harkiss the space she needed to fire home a screaming shot.

After the break Droitwich attacked but were unable to capitalise on numerous short corners.

Bromsgrove showed they were up to the task 18 minutes in when a free hit by Claire Harris was controlled by Louise Clarke, who passed to Lesley Yelland at the far post who slipped the ball past the goalkeeper.

The rest of the second half was competitive with all the team playing their part, in particular joint players of the match Claire Harris, Claire Berrisford and Louise Clarke.

Droitwich continued to pressure the Bromsgrove D in the final moments but were unable to equalise.

Although the result was disappointing for Droitwich, the girls played excellent passing moves and were unfortunate not to beat a Bromsgrove team who are a league higher.

Droitwich have a good squad this season and showed they are strong contenders for promotion. Their next fixture is a home league match against Pershore.
