HOT-SHOT striker Mark Owen is determined to recover from his broken leg to continue his goal-scoring exploits for Worcester City next season.

The 24-year-old striker, ruled out for nine months, has been in-spired by Celtic's Henrik Larsson, who overcame a bad leg break, to plunder 50 goals and lead his side to the championship.

"He had one of the most horrific injuries in recent times but he came back to score 50 goals so if he can bounce back so can I," he said.

But Owen admits that at the moment he cannot bring himself to watch football and that even thinking about the game is depressing as he contemplates the long rehabilitation programme ahead after breaking his tibia and fibula and dislocating his ankle in City's 3-2 FA Cup victory at St Blazey.

But the forward has been boosted by the huge surge of goodwill from City fans, who have flooded the club's fans' forum with messages of support since his injury two weeks ago.

"What hit home the most and what I found really touching was the messages of support," said Owen.

"For people to take time out to think of me is fantastic and I would like to thank everyone for their support.

"To be honest football is the last thing I want to think about at the moment because if I do it is very depressing.

"I listened to the build up of the game on Saturday but once it started I had to turn it off.

"Even the thought of watching football is hard at the moment because of what's happened to me.

"Coping mentally is the hardest part rather than the physical side."

Owen has been left to reflect 'why me?' after his sensational start to the season which saw him fire 17 goals including three-hat-tricks in his opening 14 games.

"I just want to get back as soon as possible because I'm devastated with the timing of the injury because I've never been playing better," he said.
