JAN Molby's Kidderminster Harriers were busy rediscovering their sharpness with 10 goals in their first two pre-season games.

Harriers defeated Halesowen Harriers 6-1 on Monday and old rivals Bromsgrove Rovers 4-0 on Saturday.

Both were games against Midland Alliance opposition but a bigger test was promised last night.

Harriers were due to visit Evesham United, high-flying Dr Martens League Western Division opposition managed by former Harriers boss Phil Mullen.

It is amazing to compare the differing fortunes of Worcestershire rivals Kidderminster Harriers and Bromsgrove Rovers.

While Harriers achieved their dream of becoming a full-time club in the Football League, Rovers have slipped haphazardly through the ranks.

They swapped places with Stourport Swifts last season and now find themselves a Midland Alliance club after finishing second in the Conference only eight years ago.

The gulf in class was displayed on Saturday as Harriers made 10 changes at half-time and swept to a comfortable 4-0 victory.

It was the fresher second half side who made the greater impression with three goals.

Boss Jan Molby will be glad to see three strikers on the score-sheet after past troubles in front of goal.

Keeper Matt Lowe saved from the ever-dangerous Drewe Broughton twice and new signing Sam Shilton who gave a much-needed presence on the left wing.

Youngster Peter Faulds also missed a good chance in the first half and Craig Hinton headed against the bar but Broughton opened the deadlock on 43 minutes.

Paul Webb split the defence on his return to the Victoria Ground and the big forward crashed the ball into the corner of the net.

Trialists Darren Middleton and Ian Joy were among those to leave the action at half-time though ex-Wycombe reserve Mark Westhead remained in goal all game.

Westhead had little to do but did save well from former Harriers and Swifts man Paul Moore 10 minutes from time.

Stewart Hadley had made it 2-0 on 54 minutes, heading home the loose ball after Lowe parried Andy Corbett's drive from an intelligent Andy Ducros pass.

Tony Bird, employed on the right wing, waltzed inside to crash home a third 12 minutes later and Hadley added a fourth, pouncing lethally in the penalty area near the end.

Harriers: Westhead; Clarkson (Medou-Otye 46), Hinton (Ayres 46), Shail (Smith 46), Joy (Stamps 46); Faulds (Bird 46), Webb (Doyle 46), Davies (Bennett 46), Shilton (Corbett 46); Broughton (Hadley 46), Middleton (Ducros 46).

Two Bird strikes were the highlights of a big friendly win at Midland Alliance opposition.

The Welshman struck with a fine chip on the half-hour and a composed finish four minutes before half-time.

Kidderminster were 5-0 up at half-time with other goals from former Aston Villa youngster Middleton, Mark Shail and Shilton.

Summer signing Danny Williams appeared in the second half along with former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Exeter City defender Steeve Epesse-Titi on trial.

But the visitors added just one more goal through Ducros, while keeper Stuart Brock was beaten by a free-kick only to save a penalty later on.

Brock was back in goal after Westhead's trial came to an end and he was released.

Harriers: Brock; Medou-Otye (Clarkson 46), Shail (Ayres 46), Smith (Epesse-Titi 46), Joy (Stamps 46); Bird (Faulds 46), Davies (Williams 46), Bennett (Doyle 46), Shilton (Corbett 46); Hadley (Ducros 46), Middleton (Broughton 46).
