JAN Molby has admitted an early four-match ban for new signing Danny Williams will hit his plans harder than first expected.

The Kidderminster Harriers boss points to midfield tough guy Williams as one of the vital cogs for Harriers' second stab at Division Three football.

The 22-year-old Welshman, who was released by Wrexham, has formed an exciting partnership with ex-Aston Villa man Mark Blake in the engine room.

And the ability shown by Williams so far has even reminded Molby of the influence of Mike Marsh in the Conference-winning campaign.

However, a red card for violent conduct last season robs the Dane of his services initially and he must also do without big targetman Drewe Broughton who is suspended for Saturday's first match at home to Scunthorpe.

Molby said: "Losing Danny is a bigger problem than I would have thought. Both him and Mark Blake have settled so well.

"I feel the other players are getting used to playing with him and are making the kind of runs they used to do for Mike Marsh. They know they can trust him with the ball.

"I've pretty much decided on my team but must still partner Blake with somebody. We will miss the physical side of the players suspended."

Molby, who has seen his side defeat West Brom and Bristol City in pre-season, is quietly confident about the impact his men can make.

And he believes the fact all new players have settled in the surrounding area will be a big help.

Molby explained: "It's massive for us because we ended up with a few living quite a way from the town last season.

"That can be difficult from time to time, especially if you want them in at short notice.

"I'm happy with the squad, we have a lot of strength in depth which will only improve as players gain more experience.

"When you have got a young squad, you don't necessarily know what to expect.

"We could get a few good results, find our feet and away we go. But a few bad results will have another effect.

"I will be disappointed if most of the players haven't learnt from last season. I know one or two have picked up an awful lot just from talking to them and watching them."

Scunthorpe are the "dark horses" to challenge the likes of Oxford, Luton, Bristol Rovers, Hartlepool, Leyton Orient and Hull, according to Molby.

He added: "They're very strong, young and fit. They have made some good experienced signings in Carl Bradshaw, Peter Beagrie and Kim Grant.

"But they will be missing Lee Hodges, one of the best in the division, and Steve Torpey is suspended."
