EVESHAM United suffered their fifth Dr Martens League Western Division defeat in 13 matches when they lost 2-1 at home to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday.

Disaster struck for United in the tenth minute after Shepshed were awarded a free kick. Kirk Masters kick hit the inside of one post, rolled along the goalline and agonisingly into the net just inside the other post.

Evesham's best chances were down the right hand side with Andy Smith providing two superb crosses which could have provided an equaliser.

In the 22nd minute the full back's long cross was met by a free header from Dean Roberts but the effort was well wide. Two minutes later Smith again crossed to the far post and on this occasion Hodgett's header was well saved by Thomas.

In their next attack a Steve Lutz effort came back off the bar and the follow-up attempt was cleared off the line.

Five minutes after the break, Evesham fell further behind when, after poor defending in their own penalty area, they were punished when Rich-ard Tanner's mis-hit shot from the loose ball found the back of the net.

Full-back Smith was still providing the best options for Evesham and on 55 minutes he ran onto a through ball a let fly from the corner of the penalty area, but the ball flashed wide of the upright.

Evesham pulled a goal back in their next attack when the referee awarded a free kick against keeper Thomas for carrying the ball outside the area. Steve McCarten's kick was blocked by the defence as was Guy Hadland's follow-up but the ball broke to Mark Wolsey who fire in a superb volley.
