IN Two of a Kind, the latest theatrical offering at Bromyard, old sea dog Wally is distraught after losing his retirement home buddy to the dusty earth beneath.

Wally struggles with the prospect and reality of sharing his Grove Lodge Retirement Home room with George, an ex-army officer, and a battle of wills begins.

Spats between the opposing characters ensue and are eased by third of the play's four characters, elderly fellow resident May, whose soft spot for both old men develops as they try to reach a level of mutual understanding. The trio are however still subject to the overly strict attentions of the home's matron, whose own tender side we never quite see.

Performed by four members of Worcester's St John's Players in Bromyard's Conquest Theatre, the small cast includes some of the group's most experienced members.

St John's Players were formed more than 50 years ago, although they have long since forgone their link with the Worcester church. This is their annual performance in Bromyard's modern theatre.

Director Ray Archer said: "Two of a Kind is set over a weekend in a retirement home and is very funny and poignant. It's a lovely play.

"It's a celebration of the resilience of older people who are determined not to give in without a fight."

Suitable for both young and old, Two of a Kind can be seen between Wednesday, September 26 and Saturday, September 29 at 8pm.
