BARNARDS Green entertained local rivals OE's on Sunday and concluded their Sunday League campaign with a three wicket win in an entertaining run chase which saw the home side reach an unlikely target of over 250 for the second home match in succession.

BARNARDS GREEN 1ST XI v OLD ELIZABETHANS 1ST XI

Skipper Andy Lamb inserted the visitors and this looked a decent decision as Matt Brookes bowled a tight early spell on his first team debut; he receive good support from Hill, Lamb and Cooke, but once former Green batsmen Mark Groves decided to hit out the Green's fielding went to pieces as he and Schiffman put on around 150 in quick time before Groves' sixth chance was eventually accepted. Schiffman punished anything short and a target of 250 was set.

Replying to this stiff target the Green had a great start as youthful Tom Harvey and veteran Bob Rogers took the score to 105 off 18 overs batting with excellent shot selection, Rogers minimising the need to run.

However the Green slumped to 120 for four as Drinkwater, Clarke and, then crucially, Harvey all fell to loose shots. Kev Ratcliffe and Simon Cooke added 44 and maintained the rate of five an over before both lost concentration. The situation called for a calm approach and this was provided by Chris Hill who proved the ideal foil for the frenetic Adams, who injected an impetus maintaining ten and the brutal Longmore who shared an unbeaten 45 run partnership with Hill to see the Green home by three wickets with two overs to spare.

This result sees Green's first XI finish a respectable third in their first season in this Sunday league.
