PLANT expert Sir Ghillean Prance returned to his old school, Malvern College, to take four pupils on a lesson of a lifetime in Brazil.

Henry Potter, Georgina Padgett, Lara Fisher and Olivia Ide, are flying to the Amazon Basin today (Friday) to be taught about its unique plant life.

The project is part of a Superteachers documentary series by Japanese broadcasting corporation NHK, which has chosen several people recognised internationally for their outstanding achievements and invited them to give a special lesson anywhere they choose in the world.

While in the Amazon, where they will be joined by two pupils from a school in the rainforest, the 14-year-olds from Malvern will live on a boat, venturing into the forest for their lessons.

Sir Ghillean, who was director of Kew Gardens as well as being involved in the Eden Project, discovered his love of botany during his time at Malvern College.
