THREE workers at a Malvern supermarket are preparing to take a 14,000ft plunge to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis sufferers.

Pete Yates, Dave Williams and Symon Hambrey from Somerfield, in Edith Walk, are all taking part in a skydive in Cardiff next month to aid their colleague June Detheridge.

Ms Detheridge, whose daughter Lynn suffers from MS, is trying to set up a support group for young local sufferers.

The three jumpers are hoping to raise £5,000 towards a scheme to provide a spa pool.

"It was Dave's idea," said Mr Hambrey, who lives in Russell Drive.

"He's wanted to do a jump for a while and June was trying to set up a group, so he suggested we do it and raise money.

"We started arranging it and we've got collection bins on the tills."

So far the collecting is going well, with several hundred pounds raised in a week, but Mr Hambrey is anxious to keep the cash flowing.

"We want to raise as much money as we possibly can," he said.

Mr Hambrey confessed that he was feeling a little nervous in the run up to the big day.

"I've never been in a plane before, and I'm scared of heights," he said.

"Well, this is one way to get rid of the fear."

Also aiming to help with Ms Detheridge's project is checkout assistant Sue Cottrell, who is shedding pounds to raise pounds. Ms Cottrell has embarked on a sponsored slim and aims to lose two stone by the end of November.

She said that she was aiming to raise as much money as she could, having already raised £80 in three days.

Ms Cottrell can be sponsored by telephoning 01684 576986. To sponsor any of the parachutists, contact Somerfield on 01684 568439.
