A DECISION over plans to build a house and five flats on Somers Park Avenue, Malvern, will be made next week.

The site is at the junction of Upper Howsell Road and Somers Park Avenue, opposite the Somers Park Junior School.

Malvern Hills District Council has already allowed the demolition of workshops, offices and showrooms in order for six new flats to be erected.

But now MRD Developments has decided it wants to put a house and five flats on the site instead.

Malvern Town Council has objected to the plan, saying the new building would protrude over the current building line and that there would not be enough car parking space, especially during school term time.

Malvern Hills Highways Partnership has also voiced opposition to the proposal, saying there would not be enough off-road car parking for the new residents.

However, planning officers at the district council have recommended the proposal be accepted, saying it would "introduce an attractive bulding into the streetscene".

They also point out that this type of development reduces the need to develop on "green field" sites. Councillors will make a decision at a planning meeting on Monday.
