MALVERN Rugby Club look to secure their first league points of the season when they host local rivals Hereford in their inaugural Midlands Division One game at Spring Lane tomorrow (Saturday).

After the reverse at Dunstablians which left Malvern in the unaccustomed position of next to bottom, albeit after only one game, Director of Rugby David Robins is looking for a polished performance from his side to open their account.

He said: "Malvern are undefeated for three years at what has become 'Fortress Spring Lane' and we look to defend that proud record in front of what should be a bumper crowd.

"We are slowly getting back to full strength and have Jon Owen on the bench and raring to get on against his old side. Dave Beech is also an ex-alumni of Hereford and starts on the wing, whilst Alex Thomas comes in at flanker and Sean Lancett finally gets to make his debut after two call-offs by Stoke and Halesonians. Bo Kristoffersen returns from Danish international duty in the Sri Lanka sevens and fills the other wing berth.

"Hereford are always notoriously difficult to play against, with a very physical style. We must keep our heads and play a sensible game up front to maintain possession, freeing our backs who on their day are as good as any at this level."

The match at Spring Lane kicks off at 3pm and Robins has made an appeal for supporters to rally round on the new Malvern RFC web site found on thisisworcestershire.co.uk.
