Ecstasy was

discovered on clubber

A RANDOM search carried out on a clubber at a Worcester nightspot yielded a Class A drug.

David Coombes had consented to the search at Tramps, in Angel Place, on Thursday, August 16, Droitwich magistrates were told.

But in the 18-year-old's pockets members of the club's security staff found six tablets.

"He confirmed they were ecstasy when asked by officers," said Mark Soper, prosecuting yesterday.

"But there's no suggestion of supply."

Coombes admitted a charge of possession of the Class A drug.

"He's quite happy to enter a guilty plea despite a lack of laboratory evidence," said Richard Wilkes, defending.

"He was fully co-operative with staff at Tramps and with the police.

"He purchased eight tablets that day for £32 and had already taken two.

"The reason he bought eight is that it's cheaper to buy that many than in ones or twos. They would last him a few weeks."

The court heard that Coombes, of Andrew Close, St John's, Worcester, took the tablets recreationally whenever he went to a nightclub.

"But since he's been caught it's been a sobering experience," said Mr Wilkes.

"He hasn't done anything like it since and doesn't intend to."

Magistrates fined Coombes £200 and ordered he pay court costs of £118.
