A SHOCKED landlady could not believe her eyes when a lorry drove off after completely demolishing a wall at the front of her pub.

Geraldine Watts had stopped a neighbour for a quick chat and said that the talk probably saved her neighbour's life as the lorry came crashing into the wall only seconds later.

"My neighbour was taking her little dog for a walk and if I hadn't stopped to talk to her she would have been on the corner where the accident happened," said the 48-year-old.

"The first thing I knew about it was that I heard a noise and suddenly the wall was in the road. "It was like everything happened in slow motion, it was just so unexpected. I was completely shocked."

The vehicle, which was towing a trailer, failed to stop after the collision outside The Albion Inn in Bath Road.

The trailer came lose as a result of the incident and was abandoned on a piece of wasteland by Diglis Docks, 300 yards away from the pub.

Landlord, Chris Watts, was on the landing of the pub when the accident occurred and said there were around six customers in his watering hole.

"We did not know it had happened at the time because there was much traffic noise," said the 53-year-old.

"The trailer had no number plate but the lorry did, and some witnesses managed to take the number plate down.

"The wall was an old Victorian wall, which circled the pub.

"It was a feature of the pub that is now completely ruined."

Worcester City Council provided a JCB digger to clean up the remains of the 10-metre long by one-metre high wall, as it was completely blocking off a footpath by the pub.

The accident took place on Wednesday, September 19 at around 2pm.

"It's a very tight junction at the best of times," added Mrs Watts.

"We've had minor accidents there before but nothing like this."
