I READ with interest in the Shuttle/Times and News about the Battle of Britain service at the war memorial outside St Mary's Church in Kidderminster.

This memorial is in the same shameful condition as I pointed out in my letter published by your newspaper on September 9 last year.

Its publication was followed by a letter from Wyre Forest district councillor Mike Oborski who agreed with my comments.

It is now September 2001 and still nothing has been forthcoming from the powers that be - despite questions being asked since 1998.

Remembrance Day and another service will soon be here and more people will be once again trying to trace the names on the memorial with their fingers on the crumbling outlines. This is now almost impossible.

Yet all the dignitaries will attend, together with friends and relatives, to show their respect and remember the reasons why they are there - but only look in one direction.

Could I suggest or request that for once could we have an "eyes left" to get my meaning and maybe something will be done.
