WE would appear to be facing another winter of discontent on public transport.

This will be suffered by those of us unlucky enough to depend on a bus service which regularly leaves its customers waiting for a bus which fails to turn up.

In particular, older members of the community, most at risk from the effects of standing in the cold and wet, can have little faith in the service as it is.

Since it has been found necessary to fine the operators of our railways for their failures, I suggest that this principle should be adopted in the case of other services, starting with the company responsible for our local misfortunes.
