DISTRICT planning chief Jake Berriman will meet Stourport councillors who fear the town may be neglected in the new Local Plan.

The proposals, which will shape the planning, shopping, housing, industry and leisure future of Wyre Forest for the next decade, were met with a mixed response by Stourport Town Council when they were first unveiled last September.

However, Mr Berriman will attend next month's town council meeting on Tuesday, October 9 to listen to suggestions and answer questions prior to the formulation of proposals between next May and June before the final plan is adopted in December 2003.

Last year town councillor Vi Higgs said plans for shopping and nightlife were too heavily centred on Kidderminster to the detriment of Stourport and Bewdley and mayor Reg Knott said Stourport was in danger of being forgotten as a retail amenity.

However, a new food store is on the cards as part of the multi-million pound Severn Road and Lichfield Basin redevelopment scheme, which is proposed as part of the Local Plan.
