GRAB your guitar and Schwan down to a musical Frankley club which kicks off its second season today with a plea for new members.

David Schwan, an American guitarist for 33 years and a teacher for 20 years, set up Frankley Guitar Club last year to share his experience with music lovers who want to perform in public.

The group meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings at Frankley Community and Leisure Centre, in New Street, from 7.15pm to 9.15pm.

Each session begins with a 20 minute lesson on some aspect of guitar playing and people are then offered the chance to perform what they have been practising since the previous session.

David, who was in a band in New Jersey, also ran a similar club in Shirley in Birmingham for five years.

Strummer David is looking for new members to help make sure the club is a success again this season.

He told the Advertiser/Messenger: "The club is performance based in that you not only learn to advance your skills in guitar playing, but also in performing in a public setting and a friendly environment.

"Everyone is guaranteed to be able to play at least one song on the night.

"All styles and levels are welcome."

The first session of the new season takes place this evening from 7.15pm.

David added: "The purpose of the club is to really encourage players to develop their skills at their pace in a friendly environment. I hope to see you there."
