CLASSY central defender Steve Pope is the latest player to join the exciting Bromsgrove Rovers bandwagon and sign a prized contract with the Greens.

The former Kidderminster Harriers defender underlined his commitment to the Victoria Ground outfit by snubbing Evesham United boss Phil Mullen and signing on the dotted line for Rovers manager Steve Daniels.

It comes just a week after fellow centre-half Jon Ford signed a contract with Rovers -- something the club had previously been unable to do whilst in administration.

Pope, along with midfielder Russell Parmenter, had been on a month's loan from Evesham. But Mullen has been left with sour grapes after Pope decided he stood a better chance of first team football at Bromsgrove.

Now Daniels is looking to add more names to his Midland Alliance promotion hopefuls, including Studley BKL playmaker Richard Kavanagh.

Seven days notice has been issued by Daniels for the former Hereford United midfielder and he could be on board for Saturday's home clash against Paget Rangers.

Daniels has also targeted two other un-named players to boost his buoyant side, who set up a mouthwatering FA Cup second qualifying round clash at home to Dr Martens League Premier Division outfit Tamworth United on September 29, following a 2-1 win at Mickleover Sports on Saturday.

About Pope's signature, Daniels said: "Steve is a great addition to the squad. He was slaughtered by Phil Mullen in the press for leaving Evesham but if Phil thought he was a good player then he should have put him on a contract.

"The loan situation is rubbish because he's a non-contract player. The lad came here, knew what a great place it was and wanted to stay.

"I don't take lightly to other managers slaughtering my players in the press. If Phil Mullen's got a problem then there's proper ways and means of expressing it."
