AN additional CCTV camera in Alcester could be on the cards again despite recent setbacks.

After the initial scheme was installed and began to prove its worth, Stratford Council suggested an extra one should be installed.

Town councillors wanted the camera in a central position to cover numerous roads, including Priory Road, Swan Street, Evesham Street and Seggs Lane.

But the cost proved to be too much and when the town council asked for financial support from the district council, they were turned down.

Businesses which would benefit from an extra camera were also asked for financial support but a poor response was received and the town council decided to put the idea on hold.

But a spokesman for the district council has now said an additional camera may not have been completely ruled out for the town.

The executive committee is likely to discuss which areas would benefit from more cameras some time during November.
