NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch and police proved a force to be reckoned with as two criminals targeted people across the Alcester area.

The Community Alert Programme (CAP) was initiated by police after attempted distraction burglaries.

The area's Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator was told of the incidents. Fellow members were then alerted and they warned residents all over the area.

The first attempted theft was at 11am when two men driving a white saloon car tried to steal a Rover 200 from outside a house in Alcester Road, Wootton Wawen.

About 40 minutes later, a vehicle matching the first description was seen parked outside a house in School Road, Great Alne.

Two men approached the elderly woman who lived in the house. She had been a victim of a distraction burglary in the past and refused to let them in, leaving them empty-handed. This was the third such incident in School Road in weeks.

At 3.30pm the same day, a Mitsubishi pick-up was stolen from outside a house in Claverdon. A white saloon car with one man in it drove from the scene while another drove the stolen vehicle away.

The fourth incident was in Redditch Road, Studley, half an hour later. Two men approached the house of an elderly lady asking if they could get some water for their car, which was a white saloon. She also refused to let them in.
