UPTON Warren Sailing Club's annual regatta was held on September 8 and 9.

The fleet of 38 boats included, Toppers, Comets, Solos, GPs, Lasers, Pegasus and even a junior member in an Oppy.

With strong winds and variable gusts the weekend proved a trying time for all competing in the eight races.

The first race, starting at 10am on Saturday, was won by John Ling (Laser), second Elliot Rose (Laser), third Bill Whiteside (GP).

Race two became more blustery and was again won by John Ling (Laser), second Bill Whiteside (GP), third Tom Davenport, Junior, (Topper).

Race three again saw John Ling out in front, second Tom Davenport (Topper) third Seb Taylor, Junior, (Topper).

Race four started the same as previous races but the winds increased with white horses showing on the lake and at one time five boats were over.

The officer of the day decided conditions were too dangerous to continue so the race was abandoned after 45 minutes.

On Sunday the first race saw the re-run of the abandoned race in less wind and was again won by John Ling. Second was Bill Whiteside (GP), third Tom Davenport (Topper).

With the wind easing again, race five was won by Elliot Rose (Laser). Second was Seb Taylor (Topper), third Tom Davenport (Topper).

Race six saw the first lady winner of the weekend, Vivien Brookes (Topper). Second was Elliot Rose (Laser), third Tom Davenport (Topper).

The last race saw winds finally easing, but still gusty, and was won by Tom Davenport (Topper). Second was Trefor Thomas (Solo), third John Herbert (Laser).

At the presentation afterwards, congratulations was given to all the juniors in Toppers and a little Oppy who had all sailed extremely well.

Overall results were: First John Ling, second Elliot Rose, third Tom Davenport, fourth Seb Taylor, fifth Bill Whiteside.

Commodores Shield/David Walker Trophy/Topper Knockout: Tom Davenport.
