RELIEVED Redditch golfer Neil Turley scrambled a dramatic 72nd hole birdie to beat off the challenge from amateur Tom Whitehouse on the final day of the MasterCard Tour's East Dorset Players' Championship.
The Redditch pro suffered a double-bogey five at the 17th after finding a virtually unplayable lie in a bunker, an error which forced him back to 10 under par and level with playing partner Whitehouse who has now finished 18th, 18th and second in the last three MasterCard Tour events.
The impetus turned towards the only amateur in the field when Turley pushed his final tee shot wildly to the right but while Whitehouse had to settle for a par four, the pro found his ball in a decent position and knocked a six iron into eight feet to save his, and several other, blushes.
Turley pocketed £5,000 for the event.
