COUNCIL chiefs across Worcestershire were still offering their words of support this week following the tragedy that hit America last Tuesday when terrorists wreaked havoc in New York.

Bromsgrove District Council leader Cllr Nick Psirides offered his words of sympathy shortly after the massive level of destruction came to light to the rest of the world.

Speaking to the Advertiser/Messenger he said: "I am sure the people of Bromsgrove will join me in thought and prayer for the people of America, especially the victims and their families.

"Thousands of innocent people, including visitors to the country, have lost their lives in the carnage. Our thoughts are with them.

"Whatever cause it is that these terrorists are trying to promote, the calamity they have inflicted on the American people is not going to gain their cause any sympathy at all."

This compassion was echoed by the Worcestershire County Council chairman Councillor Peter Fallows (Con, Hagley and Furlongs) who expressed deepest sympathies to the families of the casualties in this appalling tragedy saying:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them, as they are with the county's friends and relatives in America at this time."

And the Labour leader on Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr Peter Macdonald, echoed those sentiments.
