A LETTER of condolence was sent to New York's Mayor following the attacks on the World Trade Centre last week from Bromsgrove District Council.

The authority wrote to Mayor Rudolph Guiliani on behalf of townsfolk offering sympathy and support.

The letter said: "Like the rest of the world, the citizens of Bromsgrove district in Worcestershire, England, were deeply shocked, saddened and angered by the recent events.

"Words simply cannot describe the thought process of those responsible for such a monumental act of cowardice.

"The sympathy, thoughts and prayers of the Bromsgrove people are with you and the citizens of New York."
