Fairfield Villa (2) 3
Dudley Sports (0) 1
Midland Combination Division One
FAIRFIELD recorded their first home win of the current season with a 3-1 victory over Dudley Sports.
Villa -- playing home games at the Victoria Ground this season -- started the game strongly with visiting keeper Mark Naylor saving well from Martin Tranter and Blake Simmonds in the opening minutes.
After 15 minutes Naylor was stretchered off with a serious knee injury after making a save at the feet of Paul Matthews.
On the half-hour Villa took the lead when Junior McKeon went past three defenders before slipping the ball past the keeper.
Eight minutes later Villa scored their second when Richard Whitlock turned home a cross from Wayne Davies.
At the start of the second half Villa were under pressure but home keeper Ken Sanders was in good form. In the 52nd minute Villa went three up after fine inter-passing between Whitlock, McKeon and Davies ended with Davies scoring from close range.
Three minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back when Gavin Mole hit a superb shot from 20 yards and easily beat Sanders.
After this the visitors piled on the pressure but Villa remain firm in defence, with sweeper Martin Tranter having an outstanding game.
