Willenhall 3rds 7 Redditch Exiles 39
FOLLOWING last week's poor display in a 10-21 defeat at home to Warwick, with Doughty and Cardy scoring, Captain Cresswell persuaded his team to play with a lot more belief in attack and more resilience in defence.
Having soaked up initial pressure, Redditch began to exert themselves and were rewarded with two tries from Paul Buck, finishing off passages of fine support attacking. Jason Hapgood had a long kick and chase for the third try, outsprinting the defenders and diving near the posts.
Darren Field converted all three and added a penalty before half-time to give the Exiles a 24-0 lead.
Expecting a backlash against the wind, Redditch were a little more cautious in the second half, but they managed to soak up all that Willenhall could throw at them.
With Morgan joining the attacking line to open up more options, Redditch kept Willenhall at bay and broke to score twice more. Wayne Darlo had a 50m weaving run, leaving a wake of sprawling bodies behind.
Captain Cresswell finished off the rout with a dash to the corner, Field converting once more.
Willenhall did get some consolation from a final score, which on balance was well deserved.
This Saturday the men in pink are away at Dudley K and a repeat performance will be needed.
