AN elderly woman who fell and injured herself in Droitwich Spa claims the state of the High Street is a disgrace.

Olga Evans travels from Crowle every week to do her shopping.

When crossing High Street on Friday, she tripped on an uneven paving stone and hurt her legs and arms.

The shaken pensioner was taken to Hereford House where staff attended to the cuts and bruises.

She told the Advertiser: "The state of the road is a disgrace.

"I worked in Droitwich for many years and I have never seen it in such a state of disrepair.

"It's a bit off putting. I will have to be very careful from now on."

Droitwich Spa town councillors Jan Bolton (Con, Droit.Central) and John Cook (Lab, Droit.West) met with the woman.

Cllr Bolton said: "We are aware the road needs resurfacing and we are doing all we can to get work carried out."

The council wrote to Wychavon Highways Partnership Unit and Severn Trent Water this month to see what could be done.

Highways partnership maintenance manager Andy Broome said: "We are aware of the work needed because of loose stones.

"We carry out monthly inspections and repair any dangerous defects.

"However, any resurfacing work cannot go ahead until Severn Trent relays a damaged sewer pipe because the High Street will have to be dug up."
