TEACHERS across the town have had the tough task of helping children come to terms with the atrocity in America.

Droitwich Spa High School's deputy headteacher, Peter Woodman, said there was a sombre mood in classrooms on Wednesday, the day after the terrorist attack.

The school observed the three-minute silence on Friday and a special assembly for sixth formers was held on Monday.

Mr Woodman said: "We heard during school hours that there had been a crash in America but it wasn't until people went home and saw the pictures that we realised what had happened.

"The students have behaved very maturely."

Eleanor Sinton, acting headteacher at Chawson First School, in Wych Road, organised an assembly on Friday morning to talk to children about the disaster.

She told the Advertiser: "We explained what had happened in a simplified fashion and discussed the differences between justice and revenge."
