Shrewsbury's Rodgers nearly managed to wriggle free five minutes before half-time but Stamps kept tight with the talented young striker who eventually drove the ball high and wide from just inside the area.

After his early mistake which led to the goal Williams was finding his feet in midfield and using the ball intelligently.

But Harriers attacks were proving fruitless with the assistant referee catching them offside on numerous occasions.

Big centre-back Heathcote was left free in the Harriers box on 45 minutes but he lobbed just over the bar after latching on to a flick-on .

But Rodgers scored Shrewsbury's second goal on the stroke of half-time after a dazzling run past three players and a bullet-like finish into the net from 15 yards.

Harries had again given the ball away to lead to the goal with centre-back Smith passing straight to the opposition when there was no pressure.
