LUCTONIANS ran out comprehensive 49-3 winners against a battling Droitwich side in the first round of the Intermediate Rugby Union Cup.

The visitors took an early lead with a Matt Blackmore penalty, but were behind 13-3 by half time with Will Crawforth scoring the first try, which Roger Chilman converted.

Chilman playing at centre scored 19 points in total and converted an Anton Pilli try after he intercepted a Droitwich move.

Number eight Andrew Morris bagged two tries one as the pack drove over and the second when he caught the ball on the wing and chipped and chased for a solo effort.

Chilman grabbed a try himself with a break down the middle of the park and converted but missed between the posts following a try by John Goodwin.

Skipper Crawforth pounced to score a second try which Chilman converted.

Account

"It was a typical cup match and Droitwich gave a very good account of themselves," said Luctonians secretary, Huw Davies.

* Stourport triumphed 38-7 in their Intermediate Cup first round match with Bromyard.

Stourport coach Ron Hobbs said: "We came in at half time 14-0 up after tries by Richard Dorrell and Toby Lee (both of which were converted by Dorrell), but we were only going through the motions, and I knew that Bromyard would come back at us."

Stourport had dominated from the off and the strong pack had control of things in the early exchanges resulting in Dorre-ll's try after only eight minuites.

After a half time dressing down Stourport were obviously shell-shocked by the coach's words as a silly try was scored by Bromyard making the score 14-7 with the conversion.

But this was to be the last points scored by them as Stourport took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Second half tries by John Mallin, Victor Little, Lee Philips and another for Lee half, of which two were converted, took the score to 38-7.

* Evesham successfully defeated Keresley 15-6 at home in the first round of the Intermediate Cup with Rick Taylor and full back Chris Orshnick completing good three-quarter moves to grab the tries.

Taylor converted his own score and also put over a penalty.

* Malvern have lodged a complaint with the RFU after Old Halesonians pulled out of the Intermediate Cup clash, citing a shortage of props.

The club estimate they lost £1,000 in revenue as a result of scrapped tie.
