A SUPPORT group for the parents of autistic children has been established in Worcestershire.
The group, which will offer help and advice for parents of youngsters with the condition, held its inaugural meeting at Worcestershire's County Hall to enable parents to outline what information they needed.
Parents
Twenty-one parents attended the meeting, which was organised by the Worcestershire County Council's Parent Partnership Unit and the West Midlands Autistic Society, last Wednesday.
Sue Cain, of the parent partnership service, said the group agreed further meetings needed to be held, but the dates had yet to be finalised.
She said that during the meeting it was mooted that details on the condition, particularly in the early days of diagnosis, were needed, as well as counselling for parents and information on what to do straight after diagnoses.
Mailshots
"We will also provide those involved with useful information as and when we receive it via regular mailshots," she said.
The meeting was also used to decide subjects for discussion at a Parent's Conference next spring being organised by the partnership unit and West Midland's Autistic Society.
