DIPLOMATIC mediators are being sought to join a group dedicated to settling disputes between neighbours.

Charity Mediation South Worcestershire is appealing for volunteers to train as community helpers and attend information meetings this month.

The sessions are being held at the Green Centre, Dines Green at 3.30pm on Monday, September 24 and at the Community Room, Vines Lane, Droitwich at 7.15pm on Wednesday, September 26.

Co-ordinator Ken Allcock said about 10 people were needed to continue the rewarding work which covers Worcester city, north Wychavon and the Malvern Hills.

"Since we started in January, we have been asked to help well over 400 people in amicably resolving problems caused by noise, anti-social nuisances and property disputes," he said.

"Mediation is particularly useful when negotiations have broken down and people prefer not to go to agencies that address these matters."

Mr Allcock said problems arose because agencies were required by law to establish an offender and apportion blame.

"This generally harms goodwill and the relationship suffers," he said.

"We do not deal with neighbours from hell but help people to understand the other person's view."

The group wants to hear from outgoing, friendly, good listeners who are willing to undertake a 60-hour training course.

Anyone interested should turn up to the meetings or call 01905 330011.
