NEWTOWN Sports started the new Mercian Elgar Under 15s season with a comfortable win.

Newtown losing five of last year's championship side, soon got into the winning habit going 3-0 up in the first half with all three goals scored by last season's joint top goal scorer Adam Curtis.

The second half was a dull affair with Newtown guilty of missing a number of gilt edge chances.

Next match Littletons at home, kick off 2.30pm. Players meet at Lower Howsell Road 2pm.

WELLAND Juniors got off to a good start in the Mercian Elgar Junior League on Sunday when they defeated Littleton Juniors.

With Matt Stockton in goal and the back four of Unwin, Eyles, Whitlock and Street, they took time to settle down and did well to keep the lively visiting forwards to three goals.

The midfield of Baghdadi, McBride, Eaton and Streather all scored with the other goal coming from Graham.

MALVERN Town Wanderers played hosts to Newtown Sports in their opening encounter of the Mercian Elgar Under 13's Junior League at Sling Lane.

Skipper Liam Harford winning the toss and electing to start with the slope against the Wanderers.

The visitors took advantage of this early on and it was certainly them who held the upper hand in the opening ten minutes with David Reynolds and Lee Jenkins a constant threat. After this period the home team soon settled in their stride and the back three of Liam Harford, Matt Bayer and Luke Arnold dealt with any threat.

The second half the Wanderer's found their pattern and some neat pass and movement started to look promising although keeper Ashley Bennett had to be alert to twice deny visiting attack. Wanderers' midfield Shaun Carrey, Bruce Rogers, Gareth Atkinson and Michael Pearson were now in control and supplying the likes of Stephen Poole, Michael Dicapita and Ben Parker with numerous chances. The breakthrough came after 26 minutes, Shaun Carrey's pin point corner was met by Stephen Poole who turned the full back and slotted home from close range.
