MALVERN Town continued their poor start to their Express & Star Premier Division season when they went down 2-1 away to Wellington last Saturday.

WELLINGTON TOWN 2, MALVERN TOWN 1

Malvern started brightly and took the lead in the 9th minute when a good ball was threaded through to Neil Mogford who calmly tucked the ball away.

Playing up the slope and against a very strong wind Malvern continued to dominate proceedings and several times balls crossed in from the left by Robert Gore, Nick Clayton and Steve Walker had the Wellington defence in disarray but no-one managed to get on the end of them.

In the second period Malvern failed to allow for the wind or the down slope and crosses were constantly going behind for goal kicks.

Wellington gradually came into the game and in the 51st minute a good save from Dave Alden at full stretch prevented Wellington from equalising.

In the 60th minute a ball was played over the static Malvern defence and Jerry Griffiths ran onto it and slid the ball under Dave Alden's body to bring the scores level.

Worse was to follow and in the 75th minute although Dave Alden made a fine save from a ball played in from the left the loose ball fell to Jerry Griffiths who made no mistake in putting his team in front.

Wellington continued to play the better football and had no problem in preserving their lead and taking all three points.
