A meeting of ratepayers interested in the making of the proposed new road to connect Newtown Road with Queen's Road, was held at the Star, North Malvern, on Friday evening last. It was decided to accept his Grace the Duke Gandolfi's offer of the land and to present a petition to the Urban District Council asking them to make and complete the road.

On Tuesday Mr Hutchinson held an inquest at Poolend Farm, Pixley, respecting the death of Edward Roden, aged 22. The father said the deceased had suffered from rheumatic fever; his heart has been affected and for three months he had had a cough. Roden had said: "I wish I could die tonight". He then had a violent fit of coughing, and expired in the witness's arms.

The Worcestershire Beacon now has the topmost feature, the topescope, restored. The indicator plate has been cleaned, reoriented and fixed. This was reported at Monday's meeting of the Malvern Hills Conservators, whose chairman mentioned that the board was grateful to a visitor from Oxford, who has sent £5 towards the cost of this renovation.

Strong dissatisfaction with trading conditions under Ledbury Market House was expressed by a group of traders, at Monday's meeting of the Ledbury Chamber of Commerce. It was suggested that the number of pigeons resting and feeding in close proximity of stalls under the Market House made the sale of food unhygienic.

The preservation appeal fund for Malvern Priory Church is already more than half way towards its £100,000 target. Gifts totalling £51,200 have so far been received from some 250 donors. Most have come from people in the Malvern area, but Hong Kong, Switzerland and America also feature in the list of donors.

Work started this week to prepare Ledbury Parish Church for the BBC broadcast of Songs of Praise. Scaffolding was erected inside the building to enable technicians to install extra high-powered lights. When this job is finished, church helpers will set about arranging harvest festival decorations.
