TOP 70s television game show Celebrity Squares had a familiar face among the boxes 25 years ago.

The Malvern Gazette was desperate not to give away the result of the programme, to be broadcast on the Sunday after publication, although a beaming picture that went with it should have been a clue.

Electrician Neil Malvern, aged 23, faced host Bob Monkhouse, after getting through a group interview in Birmingham. The former Chase pupil had a host of star names to help him, in the shape of former Dr Who Jon Pertwee, Diana Dors, Willie Rushton, Katie Boyle and Warren Mitchell, Alf Garnett in Till Death Us Do Part. The result was a fortnight's holiday for two in Gozo, £100 in pocket money and £140 in cash.
