MAY I express my total disgust and astonishment to the recommendation that only 500 square metres of the Abbotsbury Court land at St Peter's is to be given to the new Community Centre.

Yet 950 square metres of that land may be given to Red Hill Baptist Church, for a church that we do not need.

I am sure that St Peter's estate has far more families with children than there are churchgoers, most of whom are already settled in their own churches and would not necessarily use a church on the estate just because it is there.

On our estate we have a very large number of children. In three to four years' time, they will be in their teenage years, lumbered with a totally inadequate community centre, with very few indoor activities on offer.

Many will undoubtedly end up hanging around the shopping area.

We need a safe place for our children to go in the evenings and holidays. We need a community centre that will provide the services of a youth club not a church that will only serve a handful of the community.
